History:

 

ü      Stands for the No Child Left Behind Act.

ü      Signed into national law in 2001.

ü      School accountability piece is Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).  This is an expanded and revised version of accountability for Title I schools.

ü      Every school must make “progress” every year.

ü      Every subgroup of 30 or more must also make “progress”.

ü      First NCLB evaluations released for 2002-03 school year.

ü      Title I schools not making it can go into school improvement.

ü      Schools evaluated on:

o       % of students mastering AIMS

o       % of students taking AIMS (95% required)

o       Attendance for K-8 schools; Graduation for high schools

Future Trends:

o        Still tinkering with rules for ELL and Special Ed students.

o        Special Ed students with nonstandard accommodations/modifications will not count toward 95% test percentage.
