A Comparison on 1996-97 Stanford 9 Scores

Between Jefferson Park Students in Success-For-All Full-Time,

Jefferson Park Students in Success-For-All Part-Time, and

Students from Control Schools 1 Matched on Stress Index2

Executive Summary

May 19, 1998

Gregg Cannon, Ph.D.

Jefferson Park students participating in the "Success-For-All" Program the entire time of their enrollment were compared to Jefferson park students that did not participate in the program the entire time, and three control schools matched on their Stress Index. The three groups of students were compared on five Stanford 9 Subscale Scores: Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, Pre-Writing, Composing and Editing. Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension scores were combined to form the Reading score while Pre-Writing, Composing and Editing were combined to form the Language score. It can be seen in the following Bar Chart and Summary Table of Means that Jefferson Park students who participated the entire time in "Success-For-All" outperformed Jefferson Park students who did not participate the entire time. Both Jefferson Park groups outperformed students from the matched control schools. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) results revealed that full-time Success-For-All students scored significantly higher than students from matched control schools on all Stanford 9 subscales with the exception of Vocabulary (p < .05). Full-time Success-For-All students also outperformed part-time Success-For-All students in Language and Editing (p < .05).
